From Friday, September 18 to Sunday, September 27, 2026, amanai will host a pop-up store by "Gobu," a horse leather brand originating from Gonohe Town, Aomori Prefecture.

Based in Gonohe Town, Aomori Prefecture, "Gobu" is a brand that creates horse leather products while exploring the future relationship between humans and horses. This will be the second event held at amanai. For more details about the brand, please refer to the previous event page.

This time, in addition to our regular items, you will be able to view Gobu's entire lineup. From bags to small accessories, you'll find products with the smooth texture of horse leather, thoughtfully designed for each specific use.

A defining characteristic of Gobu is its use of white-tanned horse leather. White tanning is a traditional Japanese leather tanning technique passed down through generations. It relies on rivers, their resident bacteria, salt, and rapeseed oil, rather than chemicals, to tan the hides. As the name suggests, the finished leather is a natural white. Unlike artificially whitened leather, it reveals the soft color and texture inherent to horse leather itself. Natural dyes are then used to add color, resulting in each piece of leather having a unique texture. As you use it, the leather's appearance will change, and it will become more supple in your hands.

For this pop-up, we plan to provide an opportunity for visitors to handle the products directly and learn about the materials, manufacturing methods, and production background. Further details will be announced on this page and on Instagram as they are decided.

Beyond horsemanship and culinary culture, we aim for the presence of horses to continue to be a part of people's lives in a different form through leather. We sincerely invite you to discover the craftsmanship of Gobu, born from the history of the land and the aspirations of its people, during this special occasion. We look forward to welcoming you to Kamakura during the autumn equinox.
