Galerie One POP UP

From March 13th to 29th, 2026, we will hold a pop up at amanai, focusing on Charlotte Perriand's chairs from the collection of Galerie One, which collects original mid-century furniture in Kamakura and Paris.

Galerie One was founded in Paris in 1988 by Thierry Lamoine, who built a career in the advertising industry. The gallery showcases and sells works by masters of design from the 1950s and 1960s, such as Jean Prouvé, Charlotte Perriand, Pierre Jeanneret, Mathieu Mategot, and Isamu Noguchi.

Having traveled between France and Japan for over 30 years, Lamoine had been searching for a base in Japan to showcase his collection, and in 2023 his wish came true when he found the ideal space for his base in Nikaido, Kamakura. Built in 1934, the Japanese house is a charming one-story building that was once home to a prominent figure in Kamakura. Mr. Lamoine wanted to turn the house into a gallery and residence, so he meticulously restored it to resemble the way it was actually used. When you open the glass shoji screens, you will find yourself in a space that feels like one with the nature of Kamakura, lined with a variety of vintage furniture that has crossed the ocean. Rather than a typical gallery exhibition, the space is more like an installation that gives you the feeling that furniture is an integral part of your daily life.

This pop-up at amanai is an exhibition and sale focusing on furniture by Charlotte Perriand, who also had close ties to Japan. Perriand studied under Le Corbusier and was friends with Japanese architects and folk art activists, and left behind works inspired by Japanese life. We hope you enjoy a glimpse of Perriand's work, which has been revived as part of the Galerie One collection.
