guse ars exhibition
SEAPARTOOLS

From July 8th to 17th, 2023, a new exhibition of guse ars titled "SEAPARTOOLS" will be held at amanai.
Exhibition
<guse ars> is an art duo based in Tokyo, consisting of Takahiro Murahashi and Satomi Iwase. Their art project, "Washed Pattern," reconstructs the patterns of ceramic fragments that have washed up in the sea or rivers to create new patterns.
This exhibition is a new work from the "washed pattern" series. In line with amanai's proposal of everyday items as tools, this is an attempt to create patterns from illustrations of "imaginary tools" made from pottery fragments collected at Yuigahama Beach in Kamakura. The title SEAPARTOOLS is a combination of the words sea, parts, and tools, and expresses the relationship between "parts and tools" in the form of "patterns born from the designs of pottery fragments."
Event
"Making specimens of two pottery fragments at amanai"
A specimen will be created by combining the participant and two pieces of guse ars pottery.
Please bring your own pottery fragments to the venue. (You can also find some on a nearby beach in advance or bring some that you own.)
Guse Ars will select another piece of pottery to match the one you bring in.
The patterns on the combined pottery fragments are then named, and Guse Ars will label them and turn them into specimens.
You can choose from the pottery fragments prepared by Guse Ars, so even if you don't have any pottery fragments, feel free to join us.
■Dates and times: July 8th (Sat), 17th (Mon) 11:00-17:00
■ Participation fee: 2,000 yen *Participation is possible at any time *Ceramic fragments must be about 10cm square and fit into a box
Shop
There will also be goods that can only be purchased at the event, such as washed pattern tiles , related books, and ceramic fragment specimens. Amanai usually selects popular tiles, but during the event, you can choose from a wider variety. Please come, not only if you are a first-time visitor, but also if you are considering a repeat visit.

I am so fascinated by the worldview that Guse Ars creates that I even asked him to make the logo and wrapping paper for Amanai. Their exhibitions are always playful and full of twists, which naturally encourage contemplation. It's as if puzzles and wordplay are incorporated into their works.
It is also fascinating that the exhibition and event of Guse Ars can be held at Amanai, close to the sea, in time for Marine Day. Please come and experience the worldview that these two artists have woven.
